Today's the day that I share more info on Smile Brilliant, the kit it includes, the whitening process and my before and after experience. You can imagine my excitement when Smile Brilliant first reached out and wanted to collaborate - my teeth needed a good whitening. A big part of this job is taking photos, so having a bright smile is important to me. In the past, I've used Crest White Strips and liked the results - but the results only lasted for so long. I was really interested in trying a new, perhaps more effective method for achieving a whiter smile.




The Process

Step 1: Take Dental Impressions

Once you receive your kit in the mail (pictured above), the first thing you do is make your dental impressions. The kit includes putty that you'll use to form molds of your teeth. Don't worry about making a mistake - they give you a few pieces of putty in case you don't get it right the first time. I only had to retake my bottom teeth mold once because I bit down too hard, but other than that I had no issues. If you follow the instructions, which are detailed and easy to understand, you shouldn't have any trouble!

Step 2: Mail Your Impressions
Once your impressions are dry per the directions on the guide, you place them in a prepaid shipping envelope and mail them off to Smile Brilliant. Their dental lab can creates custom-fitted trays just for you. They are soft and fit just like a typical retainer would.

Step 3: Begin Treatment
It takes a week or two for your trays to be formulated in the lab. Once they're done, they are mailed back to you the same way the kit was sent. You can begin whitening right away, but it's recommended to do it at night so you won't eat afterwards. I'll show some photos below so you can see a preview of the instruction guides and how you apply the whitening gel to the trays.

Notice the thin strip of gel that you apply to the center of the tray - it doesn't take much!

Good to Know:
The kit comes with Teeth Whitening Gel and Desensitizing Gel. The Desensitizing Gel is extremely helpful if you have sensitive teeth like I have. While both gels are enamel safe and won't damage your teeth, the whitening gel is powerful and may cause sensitivity. The Desensitizing Gel helps immensely! You apply it directly following your whitening treatment for about 15-20 minutes. Since my teeth are so sensitive, I whitened mine every other day. On the days in between that I was not doing the treatment, I would do the desensitizing gel by itself - this helps close your teeth's pores, which stay open for 24-48 hours during treatment. I ran out of desensitizing gel at one point, and they sent more to my house free of charge.

The Results:
This is the whitest my teeth have ever been. I finished my treatment a month ago, and they're still nice and bright! Especially considering how much coffee I drink, I have yet to see any teeth staining. I also wanted to mention that any sensitivity I experienced stopped as soon as my treatment was finished, so just be sure to keep on the desensitizing gel if needed. It's so nice to not have to be self-conscious about having yellow teeth anymore!

I wanted to show you my unedited before & after photos. I edit all my pictures in Lightroom to add brightness and color, but I wanted you to see just how white my teeth are thanks to this treatment.
