A Day in Palm Springs

Happy birthday mom! Sidenote: I wanted to post more pics of her but she didn't like how they turned out haha)

This past Thursday, May 24th, was my mom's birthday, and we wanted to do something special and different for the day. Our original plan was to eat brunch in Santa Monica at a great spot called Shutters, ride bikes around Venice, shop, and see the new Solo movie. It wound up being a rainy day with a high of about 60, so that plan flopped. We settled on a day trip to Palm Springs because it was 93 degrees over there and we've only ever driven through there!

First off, we stopped at Morongo casino on the way because we love the buffet, and it's only about 20 mins away from Palm Springs. After losing on the slots (lol), we continued on. I was kinda skeptical when we got off the freeway....the first few sights actually look pretty run down. I started to worry we made a mistake, haha! But as we kept driving, it got better and better. The main boulevard, I guess you could call it, is so charming! Really cute areas to walk through, plenty of places to eat and shop, and the prettiest palm trees all over the place.

When we arrived, we stopped at a hotel I had heard about and seen several times prior to our visit. It's called The Saguaro, and I was dyinggg to check in. I wish we had more than a day to enjoy Palm Springs, but the following day was my aunt's birthday followed by my graduation party the day after that. Anyway, it's a Barbie-themed hotel - yup, Barbie! The lobby is adorable...kicking myself for not taking a picture. There's also a huge case of Barbie and Ken dolls on display.

My favorite part of the hotel was the pool area. It looks just like what you would envision a Barbie pool party to be, lol! Big rubber ducky float, colorful chaises, a towel bar - ahh! A dream.

There were a few different ice cream places I had wanted to try, but we ended up getting some pineapple Dole Whip from Lappert's after walking by. It's actually Hawaii's #1 dessert destination, and boy was it good! It tasted even better than the one from Disneyland. We mulled around town and went through the street fair they were having that day, which I think they said happens every Thursday evening. Part of the day we had planned in PS included renting bikes and riding around, cause I read that there are lots of bike trails around the city. There is really only one shop to rent from, and it closed early :( the hotels only rent to guests, too. Next time!

I would totally go back there again. I'm sure there is more to see, because we had just a few hours to explore and honestly didn't see much. It is super super hot there, so it would be a great spot for hanging out in the pool & nightlife (it's too hot to go out during the day, ha!)

Lastly, my lace-trim cami & belted linen shorts are both from A&F. Love both of em! I wore my Free People bralette with the cami instead of my usual sticky bra, which you can find here. My shoes are a new favorite of mine. I recently found them on sale online at Nordstrom and was lucky to snag them in my size. I must admit, you have to mind where you walk - I've stumbled a time or two on cobblestones and what not hahah. They're otherwise comfortable and super cute with shorts, jeans, or a dress.
